Web Passwords "walk through"

Following are step-by-step instructions on using Web Passwords to create and save a command set for automatic entry of user name and password for this web site. The same can be done for any web site on the web which requires validation via a user name and password entry mechanism.

1. Install

Begin by installing the Web Passwords utility via the Read.Me instructions found with the files. When the Web Passwords palette appears on the desktop, continue to step 2.

2. Begin the command entry

Click the Web Passwords button while this site is within the front browser window. The command entry palette should appear on the desktop.

Note: If a command set has already been created for this web site, the option key should be held down while the Web Passwords button is clicked so as to force the command entry palette to appear.

3. Enter the User Name

Click on the User Name entry area within the Web Passwords command entry palette. Enter the User Name into the dialog that appears.

4. Enter the Password

Do the same for the password. Click on the Password entry area of the command entry palette and enter the password into the dialog.

5. Enter the Transition script

Web Passwords automatically enters the Transition script of "KeyPress Tab" (which results in a virtual press of the Tab key) into all new command sets. This is the most commonly used transition between entry of User Name and Password. That is also the transition used within this page, so leave the script as it is.

6. Enter the pre-Action script

The User Name entry line is at the bottom of the page. The easiest and fastest way to get to it is to "tab" down to it. Web Passwords can automatically do this via the pre-Action script. Click on the record script button for the pre-Action script and note that the pre-Action script area begins to blink. Press the Tab key on the keyboard once and assure that the cursor is now within the User Name entry line within the browser window. Click on the record script button again (it now has a Stop icon in it). The pre-Action script has now been recorded as 'Type "<tab>"'.

7. Make WP enter the User Name, Transition script, and Password

Click the User Name and Password entry button to have Web Passwords perform the entry of User Name, the Transition script, and the entry of Password. Watch as the information is automatically entered into the appropriate edit areas within the browser window.

8. Enter the post-Action script

Web Passwords must now record the entry of the user name and password data. The post-Action script is where this takes place. Click the record script button for the post-Action script area. The post-Action script area will begin to blink. Now press the Return key on the keyboard and note the dialog appear asking to verify that the form information should be sent (unless this option has been turned off in the browser). Use the mouse to click the Send button.
